2018 Egan Classic
Recently, the staff and students at Ridley Middle School held the 2018 Egan Classic. The Egan Classic is a way to remember a former RMS teacher, Mrs. Linda Egan who passed away suddenly in 2002. Each year the staff and eighth grade boys’ and girls’ basketball teams play in a basketball game. Money raised from the event is used to provide the Linda Egan Memorial Scholarship. Seniors at Ridley High School who will attend college in the family and consumer science area can apply for the scholarship. This year, the Egan Classic also decided to make donations to our armed services. During February students and staff brought in supplies that were donated to “Philadelphia Treats for Troops”. Eight large boxes of supplies were donated and will be sent to our troops stationed overseas. Over 500 students wrote letters of appreciation to the troops that were sent along with the supplies.
The middle school also adopted a platoon through Project Frontlines. The members of our platoon are stationed overseas. We were able to send them many supplies that were collected from the Egan Classic and a winter Kindness Dance. Several hundred students signed a banner showing their support for the platoon. This banner was sent along with the supplies to help this platoon know we appreciate their service to our country!
